  1. Instacart (IC) has just reduced their shopper’s pay (which was already questionable & extremely low to begin with), from a ridiculous rate of $7 per shop to $5 (plus tip if any). WITHOUT SHOPPERS, IC would fail to exist. Shopper’s have all the of the success of a transaction in their hands. If an order is ontime & delivered undamaged, unexpired, with no missing items, proper replacements & substitutions & complete with fresh, high quality item in excellent condition.
    To add insult to injury & further reduce a shoppers pay & increase Instacart’s profit, If additional shops added to an order, IC doesn’t pay the shopper any additional earnings to complete them. If those customers don’t tip, the employee if forced to work for free. The shopper can’t see prior to accepting these shops if they’ll get paid or not. It’s highly unfair & in most employment situations, would be illegal. Employees supply their own car, gas, wear & tear & car insurance without any compensation. Shoppers have to deal with very hot cars during summer months, rain & snow during winter, climbing stairs w/ heavy items such as palettes of water (the measly extra $1 per order that’s added for orders is steadily disappearing), loading & unloading groceries, hunting for apartment unit numbers, locating street addresses in the dark, waiting in long check out lines, dealing with lack of gate codes, customers who say, “just wait for a car”,difficulty contacting customers who won’t answer their phones &/or texts regarding their orders are all daily time consuming situations that shoppers are regularly forced to deal with. Plus grocery shopping in itself is very time consuming 2-3 minutes per item on average. If the store is out of the item requested, contacting the customer regarding replacements & refunds is very time consuming. Customer with several demands, others who add on items during the shoppers execution lengthen the time spent on orders, again reducing shopper’s hourly pay which prior to this recent cut in pay was an average of $10 per hour. Meanwhile Instacart has 10 high paid executives at the top of the company that for a company ran strictly thru apps is overkill. On the customer’s end they are charged premiums on each item they purchase (shoppers aren’t allowed to give customers their receipts). Other charges are delivery fees & surcharges all which lead the customer to believe that IC pays their employees well. Nothing could be further from the truth. With all this being said, I have worked very hard as an Instacart shopper 1st to educate myself thru the carrot academy, next to delivery an A+ experience to every customer. I currently have earned Diamond cart status & a 4.92 rating. I have spent hours & hours making sure customers are 100% satisfied with their orders so they will continue to use Instacart. But why am I doing this for a company who doesn’t appreciate me & is taking advantage of me & all the other Instacart shoppers by charging customers high fees but paying us as low as possible in order to hoard all the money for themselves. This makes shoppers not want to do such a great job. Who cares if the chips are smashed, milk is expired, bananas brown, ice cream melted & lettuce wilted. Who cares if there is an item or 2 missing & if the order is late. By mistreating your employees, you’re creating employees who will run your business into the ground. Your encouraging all great employees to get other jobs thus leaving IC with employees uneducated on food handling & proper customer service practices. Needless to say, I’m more then unhappy with IC’s latest ploy to screw over the very people who can make or break the company. I will be contacting my local news stations & encouraging fellow IC shoppers to do the same, I will be encouraging thru any avenue possible, other IC shoppers to speak up for change instead of turning a blind eye to corporate greed by simply quitting. Please pass this along to each of the 10 highly paid executives who I’m sure don’t give a single thought to each of us that directly service the customers that pay their over inflated salaries. Shopper’s are ready to strike. I implore IC to make shoppers the priority entities they are & pay them their worth & make IC a company that is both: a valuable service people need & a company that employs highly dedicated employees that deliver an A+ experiences to all it’s customers. In that way, we all win.

    • Amen…i wish i could publish this on their FBk page. I worked 4 hours on a batch. Hit every single isle in the store for 7.00 plus tip. Their app froze i had to save 4 hours of work and pay with my card. They are refusing to reimburse me for $254.41

I HAVE BEENA CUSTOMER FOR ACRUELY VERY LONG TIME AND I FFEL THAT I HAVE BEEN TREATED UNFAIRLY AND EVEN CRUELY. I NEED TO SPEAK WITH SOMEONE OTHER THAN A REPRESENTATIVE AT THE ONLY 2 PHONE NUMBERS THAT I HAVE.   5. The people you employ are seriously lacking in basic understanding. I have been an Instacart customer from the day Instacart started and your employees have been getting worse and worse. I have been having an issue with an order for 2 days and cannot get them to understand the very simple issue:

    I do not understand your inability to comprehend the issue I am referring to. You all keep referring to a Smart and Final order, which IS NOT the order in question.
    I placed an order from Vons, upon delivery items were missing so I immediately placed an order from Smart and Final.
    The order missing the items was from VONS 09/22. Delivery was missing Corn Flakes $6.99 and Hostess Chocolate Caramel Kazbars $4.99. 6.99 + 4.99 = $11.98. Please refund $11.98+tax to ORIGINAL FORM OF PAYMENT.

    Also, I do not understand why my account keeps getting flagged because of problems with orders. If your shoppers and delivery people keep having issues following directions and/or delivering an order, why am I getting flagged for it??

    Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated

  6. Based on my experience with Instacart, I would not recommend Instacart service to anyone. Their customer care is worthless and if Heidi’s comments above dated 8/3/23 are anywhere near accurate, the company itself ought to be investigated for fraud. My account was suspended allegedly because of suspected fraud. There was no warning, just suspended without further comment. I phoned them and CS rep emailed me a form to submit and said after I submitted it, the fraud reps would reach out to me within 48 hours. 72 hours later still haven’t heard from it. I phoned them to ask what’s up? CS rep said be patient and wait. Asked to speak to a supervisor and was told one would call me back within 30 minutes. Still nothing. My next plan is to initiate small claims to get my $100 sign-up fee reimbursed. Will be seeking damages, too. My wife and I are in our 80’s and no longer drive; so this service seemed ideal for us. My name is Dwaine Taylor. I live in Durham NC and my phone # is 925-918-0744. And I’m posting that information for any Instacart employees that may actually give a damn.
